Invitation to a Student Workshop – Exploring Options for Sustainability Education at Universities in Denmark

Are you interested in developing sustainability education or are you already in the early stages of such development at your university? Do you want to turn your ambitions and ideas about sustainable education into real university courses?

In this interactive workshop, you will work together with other students to transform your ambitions into concrete proposals for new sustainability courses or modules at your university. We will explore both what should be taught – the content – and how it can be taught through different learning formats, didactic approaches and active student roles.

Participation is free, we provide light food and refreshments, and the workshop is planned to make good use of your time while giving you something concrete you can take with you into your studies, student politics or future engagement with sustainability and education.

Why join?

By participating, you will: Influence how future teaching on sustainability is shaped at your own institution, as you work on concrete ideas for sustainability courses/modules that could realistically be implemented at Danish universities.

Gain knowledge and inspiration from real examples of sustainability courses that have succeeded – and others that met barriers, and get an introduction to UNESCO’s (2024) ESD perspective – connecting knowledge and action.

Develop a fearless relationship with knowledge by learning to treat your academic expertise as an active tool for designing and leading real-world change, and strengthen your capacity to combine critical understanding with the courage and practical skills to act creatively as an agent of sustainable change.

Connect with like-minded students from other programmes and universities who care about climate, environment and social justice. Work in small groups – strengthening collaboration, critical thinking, and change-making competences.

Who can join?

This workshop is designed for students interested in developing sustainability education.
The workshop is especially relevant to student groups already involved in the early stages of developing sustainability education at their institution.

You do not need prior experience with sustainability teaching or curriculum design. Curiosity, motivation, and a willingness to think together with others are enough.

The workshop is organised by Danske Studerendes Fællesråd (DSF) and Aarhus University (DPU) with support from the national mobilisation Uddannelse for Bæredygtig Udvikling (UBU).

Join us to turn your ideas for sustainable education into concrete course concepts – and help shape how universities teach for sustainable futures.

We encourage you to share this workshop invitation with fellow students who might be interested in sustainable education or student-driven change. If you know any lecturers or academics who work with sustainability or who are involved with developing sustainability education at your university, please share this workshop invitation with them.

With kind regards,
Emma Lynge Lyngbye, Aarhus University (DPU)
Rune Bak, Danske Studerendes Fællesråd (DSF)
